Promise is the first volume of the Nisekoi series. It has been released in Japan on May 2, 2012 released by Shueisha, and in the United Stated on November 26, 2012 by Viz Media.

Short summary Edit

10 Years ago, a boy and girl made a promise to each other, which the boy got a pendant and the girl the key to open the pendant. When the two grow older, they will marry each other. Raku Ichijō is the second leader of a Yakuza family, which he wants to stay out of it and wants to follow a good education and later wants to become a man with a civilized job. On the first day of school he got tackled by accident by an unknown girl, which later is known that her name is Chitoge Kirisaki. The two ended up having a fight, which much later in the story, Raku discovers that his pendant is missing. After a long time searching, Chitoge found the pendant and threw it to Raku. Getting back home, he discovers that his father befriended Chitoge's father. For the next three years, they must pretend to be in a relationship to maintain peace between the gangs. The first date didn't go well, until some time later, Raku discovers that Onodera has a key that might be for his pendant.

  • In the past, Raku also created notebooks filled with information on classmates, which he knows a lot of them and helps Chitoge out to make friends.

Trivia Edit

  • The title of the chapter "Promise" is originated from the kanji "約束". Romanized it is "Yakusoku".
  • The Japanese version of this volume shows that Chitoge introduces Volume 1 of Nisekoi, pushing Raku away.
