Chapter 162: I Understand (ワカッタ, Wakatta)
At the Beehive mansion, Adelt prevents escalation between Raku and Claude. He announces that their return to the United States has been called off, having been petitioned to do so by most of his subordinates who had heard Chitoge cry. As part of the petition, they chose to uphold the agreement to not fight the Shūei Clan. Adelt takes the key from Claude and unlocks the door to his office. He then schedules a one-on-one meeting with Claude for later, preventing him from making contact with his daughter or Raku. After Claude limps away, Adelt thanks Raku for coming to her daughter's rescue, and also spares Tsugumi from punishment, before reminding Chitoge and Raku not to miss a party being thrown for them. They grab Tsugumi and head over to school, where the party takes on a different meaning - instead of a leaving do, it becomes a celebration of the Beehive trio's successful efforts to stay with their friends where they are most happy. Easily the most overjoyed of the attendees is Kosaki, who runs over to hug Chitoge. Chitoge cries in return. Kosaki's sister Haru is similarly overjoyed that Paula would be continuing to study with them, although Paula herself cries over her time wasted unpacking, and is also not happy with being thrown into the air by her classmates. Marika, under Honda's watch, respectfully resumes her rivalry with Chitoge. After the party, Raku and Chitoge walk home together. Chitoge thanks Raku for all he did, but then wonders why he would do all that. Raku replies that it's because they no longer fight, and Chitoge is more of a friend to him now. It was not the answer Chitoge wanted to hear, and thus she floors Raku with a punch. Just then, Adelt calls his daughter again. He gives permission for Chitoge to sleep over at Raku's home.

Chapter 163: Scrap (キレハシ, Kirehashi)
Adelt's rationale for her daughter staying over at Raku's place is because they need time to unpack and return the mansion back to how it was before. As a result, Chitoge is welcomed to said place by the Shūei Clan and Yui. She tries to be of help but blows up one of the washing machines, and then leaves a mess trying to clean all the rooms. Chitoge then offers to make dinner but is refused; she insists that she is ready. As a result, Raku offers to show her how to cook, and eventually, the Shūei Clan and Yui are called up to dinner. They give Chitoge's cooking a rave review. Finally, they sleep in the same room, as insisted by the clan members. Chitoge reminds Raku that she no longer minds dating him, and asks if he does. Before Raku can answer, Yui suddenly intrudes their room. Meanwhile, at the Onodera house, Kosaki gets permission from Haru to take her CD back from the younger sister's closet. She instead stumbles upon the missing page of her picture book.

Chapter 164: Magical (マホウノ, Mahouno)
Chitoge is informed that her mother Hana is flying to Japan to spend Christmas with her. Meanwhile, the Onodera sisters discuss the missing page of the picture book that was found. They agree to call Raku over. Upon seeing the picture book with its missing page found, Raku is now sure that Kosaki was the girl he made a promise with, years ago.

Chapter 165: Fir Tree (モミノキ, Mominoki)
Haru sets up Kosaki and Raku on another date, this time at a newly-built shopping mall where couples can receive free special-edition plush dolls under a fir tree on Christmas Eve. Haru claims to be unable to make it on that day, while both Kosaki and Raku have no plans. On Christmas Eve, the two of them meet up outside the mall, Kosaki having found a map for it. As they go into the mall, Raku informs Kosaki of Chitoge's mother visiting Japan to meet family again; Kosaki returns her gratitude to Raku for helping Chitoge stay in the country as everyone in her class wanted, as Kosaki felt unable to offer her support. Raku, in return, says it was thanks to Kosaki's support. They soon reach the fir tree and notice the billboard describing its legend - if a couple watches the tree light up for five minutes, they will live together happily ever after. Kosaki notes that they are still hours before the tree's scheduled light-up time, after which the plush dolls would be given away. Two passers-by are then heard claiming that people get married under the tree - Raku and Kosaki recoil with shock again at what it implies. Later, at a food court, Raku discovers on the map that a locksmith is somewhere around the mall. He suddenly gets the idea to visit the locksmith to have them look at his locket, along with Kosaki's key. After both items are left with the locksmith, both Raku and Kosaki think to themselves that if the locket opens, they will finally confess.

Chapter 166: Looking Forward To It (タノシミ, Tanoshimi)
Raku and Kosaki continue to kill time before the fir tree light-up event at the shopping mall. They decide to watch a movie together, all the while denying that they're dating each other. Unfortunately, both catch each other staring twice. As a result, after the movie ends, neither remember what the movie was about, and both "recall" events that never happened in it. They are aware of their lack of progress, but carry on together anyway. Raku follows Kosaki to gift shops and furniture shops, and even a pet shop. Both have fun together until they realize there's only one hour left before the fir tree event. They agree to split up and buy presents separately before meeting at the fir tree. It is only after visiting another shop that Raku notices his phone is out of power, and he hasn't heard back from the locksmith that he left his locket and Kosaki's key with. The locksmith does find Raku, and brings the bad news that his locket and Kosaki's key are missing, presumably thrown out with the trash. The locksmith notes what he has already contacted Kosaki about - all mall trash is collected in one place first before being taken out of the premises at 8 PM, which, to Raku's shock, is the same time as the fir tree light-up event.

Chapter 167: Choice (センタク, Sentaku)
With twenty minutes to go until the shopping mall's fir tree light-up event, Raku finds himself running the other way towards the mall's garbage collection point. Raku remembers that the locksmith said he already contacted Kosaki regarding her key, but his thoughts conflict, and for a second he doesn't think Kosaki would go to find her key. In reality, the locksmith has only just let Kosaki know about the missing key and locket. Raku eventually makes the decision to go back to the fir tree just before it lights up, and, as expected, Kosaki isn't there. Raku suddenly feels bad for not helping out Kosaki at the garbage collection point. However, as soon as he turns around, he meets Kosaki's eyes and both gasp.

Chapter 168: Understood (ツウジタ, Tsuujita)
Raku's locket and Kosaki's key are supposedly being thrown out by the mall's trash handlers at this point. Left with no choice, Raku decides to confess anyway, but is interrupted by the fir tree lighting up. They then remember to find the plush doll Haru wanted, but just then, Kosaki is called by the locksmith who has found their locket and key - the locksmith's granddaughter took them out of his shop's trash can and brought them home earlier, and she has only just returned with her parents to give them back. Kosaki holds onto Raku's wrist to make sure that she doesn't get separated from him on the way, because his phone's out of power. Kosaki later returns from the mall with the plush doll Haru wanted, and says that she (Kosaki) managed to hold Raku's hand, which doesn't impress Haru. Haru brings up the picture book again, claiming that right from the start, there were no ending pages in the book, so she simply made some up on the spot. When their mother sees them look at the book, she says it brings back memories, as she remembers someone else giving them the book, but not the identity of that person. On Christmas Day, Bonyari High School officially closes for the winter holidays, and immediately afterwards, Kosaki reports her findings to Raku, Chitoge and Marika. She and Raku also report that the locksmith they visited yesterday couldn't fix Raku's locket without breaking off the lock, so they're back to square one. Marika notices the interaction between Raku and Kosaki, and gets an idea for herself.

Chapter 169: Vacation (バカンス, Bakansu)
On the night before New Year's Eve, Raku is "kidnapped" by Marika's entourage and sent on board a private jet to a holiday island. He wakes up on a beach with bikini-clad Marika to his right. Marika elaborates that they are on an island her family owns in Kiribati, the world's easternmost country by time zone. Marika claims to want to watch the first sunrise of the year with the person she loves, but Raku complains that he had plans for New Year's Eve. He then chooses not to sulk and instead be good company for Marika's sake. At the Tachibana-owned resort that Marika shows Raku around, Marika also lets Raku know of all the tourist attractions her family's resort has to offer. Raku replies that he wants to do his homework. Marika decides to play along with that, with the offer of rubbing sunscreen on Raku. Raku refuses the offer unless she can solve a challenging math question that is part of Raku's homework. Marika solves it with ease, to Raku's shock. Marika replies that she simply followed the advice of her teachers in order to follow the person she loves to university, and that she has no regrets about her future. She then goes to get Raku a drink. Just then, Honda appears before Raku and introduces herself. She is grateful to Raku for keeping Marika company despite the way she roped Raku into the situation, and then asks how he feels about Marika. Honda awaits a serious answer, because in her words, Marika doesn't have long left.

Chapter 170: Survive (サバイブ, Sabaibu)
Raku rows a fishing boat by himself with Marika as his sole passenger. She is directing Raku to a fishing spot on an island. It isn't long before water penetrates the boat's hull. At around the same time back in Japan, the visiting Chitoge is told by her hosts, the Shūei Clan, that Raku has disappeared from their home. Meanwhile, the sinking of Raku and Marika's fishing boat leaves them stranded on one of Kiribati's uninhabited islands, although Raku does salvage the fishing gear and a bottle of water. As part of the survival mission, they draw the letters S.O.S. on the island's sand. Raku then wraps up Marika's feet to protect them from blisters. He also hands over the water, declaring confidence in his own body's endurance. During the trek inland, Marika discovers a stream of water that is safe to drink, as well as breadfruit. Marika has to climb on Raku's shoulders in order to pick the high-hanging fruit. Eventually they catch enough fish and pick enough fruit for a campfire meal by sunset. During the meal, Raku starts to admit to enjoying his situation, having to put his survival skills to the test. He even admires Marika for not freaking out over being stranded on an island, and says thanks. Marika mistakes that for keeping their promise to get married. Just then, she discovers that they've run out of water. Marika offers to go back to the stream to get some more. She gets there exhausted, and faints.
